Mass. Delegation to the U.S. Legislature

On February 26, 2002, several MAGE directors were in Washington lobbying in support of funds for gifted education.  This lobbying trip was in conjunction with the NAGC affiliate conference, four of us were attending.  The MAGE board specifically thanks Diana Reeves and Muriel Driscoll for their advocacy efforts on behalf of gifted and talented children.

While visiting as many members of the Massachusetts delegation as possible, our representatives wish to share that Senator John Kerry, Barney Frank (MA 4th District), Edward Markey (MA 7th District), and Jim McGovern (MA 3rd District), have co-signed the bill sponsored by Senator Charles Grassley and Representative Elton Gallegly to increase the funding for the Javits Act from $11.25 million in FY 2002 to $25 million in 2003.

How can you help?

If your representative has indicated a willingness to co-sign, send them a quick email thanking them for their support.  Taking the time to thank your representative is an important part of building a working advocacy relationship.

If your representative has not yet indicated their willingness to co-sign, please send them a quick note urging them to support the Grassley-Gallegly bill increasing funding for the Javits Act.  You can find links to your legislator at www.house.gov or at the MAGE effective advocacy page.

Of course, you'll want more information on what the Javits Act covers so you can explain it effectively.  Please visit our most recent federal alert for more information.
