Massachusetts Legislature
Senator Jo Ann Sprague Supporting Dual Enrollment*:
Dear Diana [Reeves, MAGE Chairperson],
On behalf of Senator Sprague I would
like to thank you for your
correspondence.
The Senator does agree with
the Dual Enrollment program, and you can count
on her efforts to make sure
that the limited funds the state will be working
with this next fiscal year
are well spent. Especially on programs like this
that are so valuable to our
students.
On another note, I would like to point out that the Governor
did not fund
this program FY01, but it ended up in the budget. There are
still two more
budgets that will come out in the next four months, and I know
that the
Senator and other legislation will work to see that this program is
funded.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

*Dual enrollment is a program allowing advanced high school students to take college courses at Massachusetts public colleges if they maintain an appropriate high school GPA. In MAGE's opinion, it is an invaluable outlet for gifted students, and according to Boston Globe figures, it was often used by urban and minority students.
