URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT FOR MASSACHUSETTS! Please communicate with the Joint Committee on Education’s members in the House and Senate about next year’s budget having no money set aside for gifted and talented. If you can, please ask parents if they can also communicate with this Committee. I would recommend talking with the chairs and vice chairs and their own local reps.
It might be helpful asking the Committee “to earmark funding for gifted and talented.” That language is important as the funds are still there but lumped together with a bunch of other things. The funding could stay “lumped” but something needs to be done to assure that the allocation goes still to GT. Apparently the Governor’s budget still has the earmarked GT funds. It is only approximately $500,000, but that amount makes all the difference in the world in accomplishing the work of reaching out to districts and families!
JOINT COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION House Staff: Senate Staff: It shall be the duty of the committee on Education to consider all matters concerning education (through grade 12) and such other matters as may be referred Members appointed to the committee: O’Leary of Cape and Islands - Chair |

MAGE Guided Parent Discussion Groups
MAGE is pleased to sponsor guided parent discussion groups for communities in Massachusetts. A community liaison works with MAGE to find a location and publicize the event. Two co-leaders (one versed in G&T; the other a counselor) guide parent participants through readings and discussions. This is a great way to connect with other parents in your region! Contact Diana Reeves at rdianam@aol.com for more information about hosting a group in your community! Northboro? Milford? Maynard? We have had interest expressed in Guided Parent Discussion Groups in these areas BUT WE NEED A MEETING SPACE! Please contact sdlangley@aol.com if you can recommend a complimentary meeting space that will accommodate parking for approximately 17 vehicles and seating for up to 34 people in a circular group formation. |
