Seeking Elementary Classroom (Gr.2-4 & 5-6) Teachers for ANOVA 2010 – 2011 

We seek dynamic, entrepreneurial lead teachers to launch our initial multi-age classrooms in a school focused on gifted students. We seek teachers who are gifted themselves and have experience to lead a Grade 2 - 4 class group, and a Grade 5 & 6 class group. In the coming years, we will become a PK – Grade 12 school.
Teachers must have an entrepreneurial spirit, experience running their own classroom, and an area of intense interest and skill (e.g. science, math, music, etc.) Teachers will collaborate with one another, leveraging skills to create the best learning environment for students. Experience and coursework in Gifted Education, Special Education, Montessori, or project based instruction is preferred. The school will commence as a low cost parent cooperative school. Beginning in 2015 the grades PK-12 will all be open and enrolling students.
Job Responsibilities
• Launch one of the first classrooms in a new school
• Customize multi disciplinary, project based curriculum to meet a wide range of student abilities; students’ skills may be one to four grades above expectations for their age. Partner and collaborate with other full and part time teachers and parents who all bring different skills and abilities.
• Differentiate instruction to fit the needs, interests, and potential of the students
• Entrepreneurial; comfort with ambiguity; able to self manage; eager to collaborate with a teaching team.
• High interest and knowledge in at least one key area of academic, creative, or leadership / EQ learning
• Open minded and flexible; able to seek expertise from external sources to meet student needs.
• Address special needs; prepare particularly for needs which coexist with giftedness 
The Need for Something Different: Massachusetts ranks 48th out of 50 states in supporting the needs for gifted education; there is great urgency and need within the gifted population which currently does not have access to an appropriate education. The first founder / teachers will have significant leadership opportunities to create engaging curriculum and help grow the school and expand its influence as a Massachusetts model.
School Purpose & Philosophy: Anova will provide students with limitless access to learning, offering high ability students opportunity according to their ability not age. The Anova community learns, discovers, and explores at a pace appropriate to each child’s unique motivation and potential. Our culture is not about pressure; it is about freedom. We will keep alive students’ innate curiosity and love of learning. We will support students to develop in their areas of unique capacity or talent, and help them grow into the best version of themselves. Through developing character, knowledge, and talent, we will develop thinkers and innovators who will be able to make positive change.
Curriculum: Anova will offer an expansive curriculum in all academic areas. We will support students to build self awareness and a capacity to mobilize others. Each student will achieve with individual learning plans, and we will align mentors to student talents and interests. Students with inquire and solve problems within real world projects. In our unique culture, we will create a community which honors differences and enables each person to become their best self, while they take responsibility to make a positive impact on the larger community.
Each student will start the year with a set of pre-assessments, including ERB tests, which will be used to form an Individual Learning Plan for each student. Then, through thematic curriculum and also opportunities to do independent projects, engage with a mentor, and participate in flexible, ability based math groups, each student will have a learning experience customized to fit their capacity and areas of interest and passion. We plan to use the Museum of Science Engineering is Elementary curriculum as a backbone for interdisciplinary, experiential education. Students will also be part of Destination Imagination or FIRST Lego League as part of their school experience, which will be one of the ways they develop team and leadership skills. Singapore Mathematics will be our base for mathematics education. Information about our curriculum philosophy and an overview of Year 1 plans is available at www.anovaschool.org. Music and art will be interwoven in thematic units, and language arts will be taught through a workshop and book group model. Technology will be integrated, aided by advice of experts, as we seek to build a model, 21st Century Classroom. We will spawn creation of other Innovation Schools to serve gifted students, which also serve as centers of dissemination for best practices in STEM, interdisciplinary, and other innovative learning approaches. This job can evolve into different leadership roles as we become an incubator for Innovation Schools all over Massachusetts. We will launch Innovation Schools and become centers for teacher training in 21st Century Education. Our long term mission is appropriate, free education for gifted students and general education reform for all students.
