1. What does MAGE do?
As listed in our Constitution, the purposes of this Association shall be to encourage, assist and to initiate efforts so that every Massachusetts person shall have an opportunity to be educated fully commensurate with his/her ability or talent without restriction so that each person in the Commonwealth may have opportunity to be as fully developed as possible by availability of educational programs beyond those regularly provided. Of particular concern to this Association are those individuals who demonstrate special talents, gifts and/or aptitudes.
How does that translate to action?
We provide information and advice to address individual needs. Through individual communications, group discussions, G&T conferences, our Website and MAGEInfo, we educate individuals on:
- the common characteristics & differing needs of gifted children;
- the many options in acceleration;
- the variety of available resources;
- effective techniques for individual advocacy.
Additionally, we educate the general public about gifted children (the first two bullets above) and advocate for them at the state and national level in order to
- to identify and disseminate resources in gifted education to teachers, administrators, parents and other interested community members
- to advocate for the appropriate education of gifted children in the state of Massachusetts and beyond
- to educate teachers, administrators, parents and other community members in instruction, pedagogy and political advances in the area of gifted education
- to serve as an opportunity for community members of all kinds to get involved in the vital mission of educating gifted children
- to connect community members to others with the same questions, goals and concerns for the future of gifted children in Massachusetts and beyond and
- to represent the gifted children in the state of Massachusetts when building relationships outside the state that can further gifted education.
